Static Overview

This is the story of a very special house that has seen a lot of changes since it was built in 1914.  Our company, Dovetail Construction, has been in the business of high performance and sustainable renovation since 1987.  The scope of the renovation is in fact “monumental” and it actually sits on the renowned Monument Avenue in Richmond, VA.  The house was originally built for William Schwarzchild and designed by the architect D. Wiley Anderson.  It went from being a single family residence to the home of the Senior Center of Richmond thanks to the hard work from the ladies of the Junior League of Richmond.  As progress is made to take the house back to it’s original use as a single family home, we are fortifying it with the best resources, and technology available to make it last at least another 100 years.

Give Me Five!

We have the BEST painters and refinishers in the world which is a good thing because we are stripping and or encapsulating every inch of this house inside and out.  Mark and Tony from Tinkers are strategically working on the parlor downstairs and the dining room.  They have worked with our painter Donald (who is up for canonization in my book) and Donald's Merry Band of Painters that include Martie, Shawn, Justin, Neal and Keith to strip and paint the complete exterior and many of the other interior rooms.  It's unbelievable!  Here is the Dining Room before:

Here it is during:

 and a little further along:

We are talking doors, windows, coffered ceilings, over-mantels, regular mantels, every kind of trim imaginable and pocket doors that are 8'6" tall!  This has become a laboratory where furniture refinishing knowledge has been imparted to carpenters and painters and it has become viral through the house.

Here are examples of some of the exterior:

With his outfit and respirator, Neal is practicing" safe stripping" and
he is able to keep autograph hounds at bay remaining incognito..

Look at the wood- It's all heart pine from 100 years ago...Ah!

                                                          Give me ten!
